Lanakila MacNaughton is a motorcyclist, photographer and designer based out of Portland, Oregon. For the last year she has been traveling down the west coast documenting the real women that ride motorcycles. Lana immediately caught our attention due to our love for beautiful imagery and lust for motorcycle culture.

It just so happened that a handful of these new-waves modern female motorcyclists are friends of ours: Ashmore, Jenny, and Lindsay. They were delighted to get us connected with the talented Lana and that is how we bring this story to light.

The Women’s Motorcyle Exhibition is a traveling show featuring portraits taken by Lana of fellow female riders. Her debut show was July 12th, 2013, in Portland, Oregon. It’s a traveling show with the next big show at Riverside Art Museum in California in December – so if these portraits inspire you come see them in person. Even better, if you’re a woman who rides, give her a shout and maybe she’ll take your portrait.

“I created the Women’s Motorcycle Exhibition to document the new wave of modern female motorcyclists. I want to reveal the brave, courageous and beautiful women that live to ride. The Women’s Motorcycle Exhibition is a traveling show. I hope to help discover and present female riders from all different communities, riding backgrounds, and styles, and maybe even influence some connectivity amongst riders from these different areas. I invite different communities and venues to host the photo exhibit to aid in this discovery. Also, I’m always looking for women to shoot. Above all, I hope to illustrate and really present, the freedom, independence, excitement and personalities’ of the “born to be free” woman motorcyclists.

The entire show is shot on my medium format Hasselblad cm camera, all film. I am usually sitting on the back of the bike shooting the girls riding next to me. I have shot in 30 degree weather in Portland to 107 degree weather at the Salton Sea in Southern California. I am meeting more and more amazing women that ride and am just getting started.”
