Chalk up one more point for the Berlin, Germany Team. Alle Farben is our next heavy hitting DJ/Producer straight from our favorite deep house district. Yes, it’s Monday, and you might be thinking it’s too early for a deep house set. We can assure you, it isn’t. It’s never too early or too late, and if you are searching for a creative boost, press play or download the set below for free. I pride myself on only posting the best of these mixes and this one takes it’s place near the top. Tasteful, melodic, soft, deep, and energetic, but never hurried. Alle mixes on purpose because it’s exactly the right moment to do so. Underneath his own label, Alle will be constantly a part of our Soundcloud stream for years to come. Without further delay, we present to you Alle Farbe, 37 Luminous Green.
Our favorite don’t give a fuck apparel brand Muschi Kreuzberg is back with their own version of prodigy’s Smack My Bitch Up highlighting their launch of their newest Hoodlum Hills Collection. It’s smart as hell, with it’s freeze frame highlighting of the newest pieces and brings us back to 1997 with a bit of nostalgia. It looks like our star ends up at packed house Prince Charles in Kreuzberg, Berlin for a night of debauchery which we love to see.
Two hours outside of Berlin in the city of Hamburg Germany, lives Jacob Groening. Jacob teamed up with Daniel Wilhelm in 1998 to make Tanzen hilft! 2 DJ’s – eine Idee! Das ist “Tanzen hilft!”. Tanzen Hilft, fittingly means keep dancing.
Today we are focusing on Jacob’s solo set, Chairoplane 011. I came upon this set this last year and I haven’t been able to shake it from my mind. It begins slow and ambient, as though the soundtrack to a thoughtful foreign film. From here we build slowly, and eleven minutes in we are taken into a series of beats and piano that finally settles into a pulsing set, slower in bpm but so delicate and heartfelt. Vincenzo’s voice warms us further into the hour and a half set, and we are off, our heads nodding all the way. Download the set below for free and make sure to visit Jacob and Daniel’s Soundcloud pages below for hours of unreal music.
Rough Berlin winters turn out to have a favorable influence on the music the city produces. Here are some of my latest favorites to fight the cold and join the wonderful Witness This crew. Enjoy.
1. A brand new Apparat album is about to be released – A violent sky: Hypnotic. Melancholic. Beautiful.
Album Krieg und Frieden by Apparat releases February 15, 2013
2. One of my all time favorites DJ Koze got a hand on Matthew’s It’s only and turns it into a deep and dark night bender.
3. Maxxi Soundsystem from Brighton, England manages to grasp the Berlin spirit these days. Deep. Excessive. In the moment.
We featured Voo for the ladies last week, but now it’s all about the guys. Opening Ceremony, DSTM, Carven, and Acne are a few of the brands gracing the Voo store’s interior. Blacks, grays, and browns usually tell winters story and as a lot of the items at Voo still scream winter with oranges and traditionally fall hues, we love how color is still a focus and finds itself scattered through the line. Check out the ladies post from last week if you missed it! Voo Ladies.
We present to you NU, another Berlin based musical nomad who has pulled music from his travels as well as written, produced, and mixed his own music into a hypnotizing blend of deep, funky, melodic house. SOL, which we are featuring today is an over three hour set that takes us around the world through tribal arrangements, modern electronic blends, and throbbing soundscapes all blended beautifully together. Perfect for a slow starting Monday, this set will take you unobtrusively through the morning, right to lunch. It begins scattered with slow building beats flavored with the sounds of foreign voices, children singing, and eventually takes off around the world as we almost seem to follow NU’s travels.
