Dirty Gold

Abadabad

Brooklyn’s Abadabad brings a sweet simplicity and romantic tempo that should be the bookend to your lo-fi summer.  Abadabad, is what would happen if Danger Beach teamed up with Dirty Gold.  Full of intimate sincerity, California Birds, makes me want to fall in love with the elusively beautiful women in California before they leave the beaches for their winter migrations.  Looking at Abadabad’s tumblr I understand just exactly the type of “birds” that are being referred to in the song.  The three tracks (two of which you can download free) up on bandcamp are a great introduction of things to come.

Park Slope Lyrics

i can’t figure out what you think you did
running around with some other kid
that will probably hold you back

and why would you call me out the way you did
talk me to death and then i swear somehow
you made my heart turn black

i think she’s going solo
but i know that she’ll miss her man
when i get back to Park Slope
yeah i’ll probably kiss her hand
i might be going solo
and i’m doing the best I can
when i get back to Park Slope
yeah i’ll probably kiss her hand

and know that i know what i really did
i said some things but
i never thought that i would get drunk like that
well might act like a little kid but i swear so hard
my intentions were good
even though i behave so bad

i think she’s going solo . . . (i’m sorry about it)

TV Girl

TV Girl is the San Diego band of Trung Ngo and Brad Petering.  We first came across TV Girl through the split 7″ they released with San Diego counterparts Dirty Gold.  This week we got an email announcing the release as well as free download of their second EP titled Benny and the Jetts.  This release is four tracks of sampled beauty full of hard hitting beats with light vocals arranged into a dreamy haze.  This release upon early listening draws some comparison to Atlas Sound and Cults with the song “Your Own Religion” being my favorite.

Dirty Gold / TV Girl Split 7″

San Diego bands Dirty Gold and TV Girl recently put out a split 7″ in which they cover each other’s songs.  Both bands are great on their own, yet bring their different musical approaches to compliment one another’s song.  Hopefully they can keep up the momentum and help each other gain a worldwide audience.  We’re already captivated.

Dirty Gold

Local San Diego band Dirty Gold has shine through all the other 60′s beach inspired genre of late.  ”California Sunrise” is able to capture the carefree beachy feel of Beach Fossils and Wild Nothing, but there is something in the percussion that brings an international feel to a sound that has become the norm.  The band is comprised of brothers John and Lincoln Ballif and their friend/drummer Grant Nassif, who are all still in high school and grew up playing instruments.
