Producer Mitch Schulz has been in the field of plant medicine documentary for quite a while. SOLDIERS OF THE VINE, one of his latest works, is now openly accessible on YouTube or Vimeo.
The documentary follows six ex-soldiers who have served in the war for the US military on their trip to the Peruvian jungle where they attempt to treat their PTSD symptoms with the ancient shaman healing method of Ayahuasca, a powerful psychoactive plant medicine.
Towards the end of the film, I would have wished for some more overview and insights about short and long term effects. It felt to me the documentation treats this rather in a rush but nonetheless the film makes for a powerful hour of infotainment. Especially the impact of the horrors of war on a human being are brought to the screen in a moving way.
