What’s so great about California anyway? Maybe I’m jaded from living in the Golden State, but I’m not quite sure why putting California in front of anything gives it a sense of authenticity or cool. Sure there are beaches, babes, palm trees, famous people and EVERYONE SURFS. But California also means traffic, tract homes, and the typical important soccer mom wife in her SUV. Formed in 2009, California Wives are a four piece new wave indie band from Chicago, Illinois. Their self-proclaimed sound is “New Order’s synth-pop mixed with guitar riffs reminiscent of The Police.” CW’s EP titled Affair is comprised of five soothing, yet high-energy songs that draw to mind some similarities from Foals, Phoenix, and Wild Nothing. The more I think about it, I understand the California sensationalism and the infatuation with our wives.
